Some 215,000 people experienced severe material deprivation last year as they faced at least four out of six material deprivation elements due to a lack of financial means, Lithuania's statistics service, Statistics Lithuania, said on Friday, based on the results of a statistical survey into revenue and living conditions.

7.2 percent of city residents experience severe material deprivation last year, and 8.8 percent lived in rural areas. The former rate went down by 2.5 percentage point, and the later inched up by 0.1 percentage point.

In terms of age, those aged 65 and over more often faced severe material deprivation, compared to people aged 25-49. Childless households experienced severe material deprivation more often than families with children.
