The legal proceedings are related to the failure to wear facemasks and keep social distance, police say.

"Eight persons have already agreed to have administrative offence protocols with orders to pay fines to be sent by email, which officers have done already. The persons are expected to pay fines of 250 euros by the set deadline," the police statement reads.

Another 12 people have been sent subpoenas to come to a police station for administrative offence protocols to be produced. "Not all individuals are cooperating with police officers and some of them have asked to communicate via their managers or lawyers," Kaunas County Police said.

Police launched administrative proceedings against the organizations of the awards on Monday. Police officers have collected evidence during this week and have also asked for information on people who attended the event.

"The organizers are cooperating with police officers and have provided documents and officers have started analyzing them," police said.

Law enforcement plans to announce the final decision in this case later.

Administrative proceedings were launched regarding violation of public health legislation when there was a risk of spread of dangerous or very dangerous infections diseases during lockdown. Natural persons are facing fines of 500-1,500 euros, and legal persons are facing fines ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 euros.

Lithuania's police received several dozen complaints over the broadcasting of the M.A.M.A. awards which sparked public anger.

The organizers, however, said there were no outsiders at the arena during the filming, all participants had undergone COVID-19 testing, and personnel also wore facemasks.
