"If we look at the percentage of immunization in Lithuania, it already stands at almost 17 percent," the minister told LRT Radio.

"The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to almost 7.5 percent of the population, and the second dose to 3 percent. One percent has antibodies, and five percent has had the virus."

Dulkys rejected criticism that the vaccination process is too slow, saying that over 90 percent of delivered vaccines have been used.

Based on the latest statistics published on Tuesday morning, a total of 218,156 people have received their first coronavirus vaccine shots so far and 86,819 have been given the second jab.

About 31 percent of people aged 80 years and over have been vaccinated.

Lithuania is now using the EMA-approved vaccines developed by BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca.
