Experts suggest allowing more retailers to reopen

A group of experts advising the government on the coronavirus pandemic suggest allowing more retailers to reopen, the prime minister's spokeswoman has said.

"The Council of Experts decided to submit proposals on the opening of retail outlets," Rasa Jakilaitiene told BNS on Monday evening, adding that more details would be provided at a news conference on Tuesday.

The experts also considered recommending easing some lockdown restrictions during the Easter period, but made no decision.

The country was placed under a second lockdown in early November amid spiking coronavirus cases. The government tightened the lockdown in mid-December, banning non-essential travel between municipalities and shutting down non-essential shops and services.

Non-grocery food shops with direct street access and hairdressers and beauty salons were allowed to reopen in mid-February.
