"Although the coming spring gives hope that the situation will change, we cannot take risks," said Justinas Bortkevicius, CEO of Vilnius' Litexpo exhibition center. "The pandemic situation remains unclear, and we cannot organize an event of this magnitude within a month."

In late 2020, the organizers said that Vilnius Book Fair would take place in May.

The organizers say they had considered various options, such as holding the book fair online, outside the Litexpo center or in the city, but eventually decided to move the event to February 24-27, 2022.

Held in the Lithuanian capital annually since 2000, the international book fair attracts 60,000 to 70,000 visitors every year.
