Lithuania ranks 6th in Europe by COVID-19 case and death rates

Lithuania remained sixth in terms of the 14-day COVID-19 case notification rate among the European countries monitored by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and drops one notch to the sixth place in terms of 14-day death notification rate.

Last week, the country ranked sixth and fifth, respectively.

Lithuania’s 14-day case notification rate now exceeds 533 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down by 65 cases from last week, according to the center’s data update published on Thursday.

The first among 30 countries is Portugal with the 14-day case notification rate of 1,652 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Spain (1,036), and the Czech Republic (896).

As regards the 14-day death notification rate, Lithuania ranks sixth with the rate of over 127 deaths per 1,000,000 inhabitants, down by 28 deaths over a week.

Portugal comes first with almost 363 deaths per million population, followed by Slovakia (almost 205), Slovenia (183) and the Czech Republic (182).

Meanwhile, the best rates among the countries monitored by the ECDC continue to be found in Iceland, Norway and Finland.

A total of 184,948 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic, based on the latest data from Statistics Lithuania. The country currently has 45,753 active cases and 133,994 recoveries.

The coronavirus-related death toll now stands at 2,885.
