Russian and Latvian truck drivers die in head-on collision

Two drivers, one a citizen of Russia and the other of Latvia, died when their trucks collided head-on on the Kaunas-Marijampole-Suwalki highway in southwestern Lithuania on Thursday morning, police said.

The drivers of both trucks, a Russian citizen born in 1977 and a Latvian citizen born in 1956, died in the crash that occurred in the municipality of Kalvarija at 6:51 a.m., according to Renatas Siaurusaitis, spokesman for Marijampole County Police.

The police are investigating the accident.

Traffic in both directions on the Via Baltica section was shut down after the crash.
