The companies notified late on Thursday that they would deliver 54,405 doses, instead of 108,810 doses, over the next four weeks, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

Incoming vaccine shipments had been cut for all European Union's (EU) countries, the ministry said.

The representative office of the vaccine manufacturer explained that shipments had been cut due to reprogramming of production lines, as well as their validation and authorization for new production capacities.

According to the ministry, a representative of Pfizer/BioNTech assured that subsequent vaccine shipments would be increased and the manufacturer would specify, in the near time, the precise quantities that would be delivered to the country.

Lithuania has ordered a total of 3.1 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and this volume will remain unchanged, despite this temporary cut in supply.
