The average temperature for the second ten-day period of this month was as much as 6.6 degrees Celsius higher than the usual average for the period, it said.

New daily heat records were set on June 11 through 13. The mercury surged to 35.7 degrees Celsius in Kaisiadorys, in central Lithuania, on June 12, the highest-ever temperature recorded for the month in the country.

Meteorologists say a period of below-average precipitation has continued in the country since late March.
